2022 School Board Candidates
MEET THE SFVA ENDORSED CANDIDATES FOR THE
VIRGINIA BEACH SCHOOL BOARD 2022
THESE CANDIDATES BELIEVE
Parents know better than government and must be at the forefront of all decisions made for their children
A focus must be placed back on basic academics such as Reading, Writing, Math and Science
Vocational education must be strengthened and prioritized
Teacher workload must be reduced and student discipline must be enforced by administration
The awards of Valedictorian and Salutatorian and Class Rank must be reinstituted
VOTING DISTRICTS HAVE CHANGED
District 2: Amy Solares
Amy grew up in Virginia Beach and has a child in Virginia Beach Schools and one who just graduated. She is a local business owner and holds a Juris Doctor degree. Amy spends many hours a week volunteering at the local animal shelter and for many years as a coach for Girls on the Run. She has been active in fighting for parental rights and will be a great servant leader on the School Board.
District 4: Ken Lubeck
Ken has 2 daughters who attend Virginia Beach Schools. He is a Navy Veteran who is active in his community volunteering with an after-school reading non-profit and at-risk youth organization for many years. Ken is also an IT manager and analyst who brings a passion for prioritizing student achievement and safety. His data analysis skills will be highly valued on the School Board.
District 6: Mike Callan
Mike is a business owner in the financial services industry and has 3 grandchildren who attend Virginia Beach Schools. He graduated from Princess Anne High School and St Leo University. He wants to raise the standards in Virginia Beach Schools so that every child can receive a rigorous education that prepares them for the workforce, military, or college.
District 8: David Culpepper
David is a retired Navy Captain having served our country as a naval aviator. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds a Masters' Degree from the Naval War College. He served as a TOPGUN instructor and was the Commanding Officer of US Naval Base Guantanamo Bay. David and his wife have a child who attends Virginia Beach Schools. His motto is Students First Parents Always and he wants to bring more transparency to public schools and put more focus on the basics of education.
District 9: Carolyn Weems
Carolyn currently serves on the School Board and has been a staunch supporter of parental rights and at the forefront of advocating for students with special needs. She is currently leading an effort for Virginia Beach Schools to have a "Recovery High School". Addiction, drug use, and mental health issues have become a major problem in our school system and she is seeking a solution to these crises.
District 10: Kathleen Brown
Kathleen is the mom of three Virginia Beach Public School students and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She is an active volunteer in her community and has worked as a figure skating coach for over 10 years. Kathleen wants to prioritize vocational and college readiness as well as put parents at the forefront of educational decisions.
